CC Redneck History 1 CC Redneck History 1

Thiswas the prevailing view among most r

eligious people of Lee's class in the border states. They believed that slavery existed because God willed it and they thought it would end when God so ruled. The time and the means were not theirs to decide, conscious though they were of the ill-effects of Negro slavery on both races. Lee shared these convictions of his neighbors without having come in contact with the worst evils of African bondage. He spent no considerable time in any state south of Virginia from the day he left Fort Pulaski in 1831 until he went to Texas in 1856. All his reflective years had been passed in the North or in the border states. He had never been among the blacks on a cotton or rice plantation. At Arlington the servants had been notoriously indolent, their master's master. Lee, in short, was only acquainted with slavery at its best and he judged it accordingly. At the same time, he was under no illusion regarding the aims of the Abolitionist or the effect of their agitation.

"Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth. This truth has been slow in the process of its development, like all other truths in the various departments of science. It has been so even amongst us. Many who hear me, perhaps, can recollect well, that this truth was not generally admitted, even within their day. The errors of the past generation still clung to many as late as twenty years ago. Those at the North, who still cling to these errors, with a zeal above knowledge, we justly denominate fanatics. All fanaticism springs from an aberration of the mind from a defect in reasoning. It is a species of insanity. One of the most striking characteristics of insanity, in many instances, is forming correct conclusions from fancied or erroneous premises; so with the anti-slavery fanatics. Their conclusions are right if their premises were. They assume that the negro is equal, and hence conclude that he is entitled to equal privileges and rights with the white man. If their premises were correct, their conclusions would be logical and just but their premise being wrong, their whole argument fails. I recollect once of having heard a gentleman from one of the northern States, of great power and ability, announce in the House of Representatives, with imposing effect, that we of the South would be compelled, ultimately, to yield upon this subject of slavery, that it was as impossible to war successfully against a principle in politics, as it was in physics or mechanics. That the principle would ultimately prevail. That we, in maintaining slavery as it exists with us, were warring against a principle, a principle founded in nature, the principle of the equality of men. The reply I made to him was, that upon his own grounds, we should, ultimately, succeed, and that he and his associates, in this crusade against our institutions, would ultimately fail. The truth announced, that it was as impossible to war successfully against a principle in politics as it was in physics and mechanics, I admitted; but told him that it was he, and those acting with him, who were warring against a principle. They were attempting to make things equal which the Creator had made unequal."

demo reels

Hey wantcock, a demo reel is supposed to be the filmmaker or animator's equivilent of an artist's portfolio, not a fucking music video montage of some of the stupid shit you've done. It's supposed to display your skill, talent and experience in your field in the hopes of getting you a fucking job, and you opened up with a fucking lock legion animation.

Your demo reel should be able to compliment a resume. Shawn Hollern's demo reel was a good example of such a thing. This isn't.
I don't follow you very closely, but if you have at least any intermediate understanding of human anatomy or the physics of movement, that's the kind of shit you should be demonstrating, and you've completely failed to. The faces flashing over the static tweened bodies look cheap and stupid.

In spite of the animu bullshit, you have some skill in more traditional frame-by-frame animation. You're not squandering it, but you're certainly not nurturing it, either. That black and white thing of the guy punching the other guy has no place in a professional demo reel. Not to mention positive attention from prospective employers is never going to flourish if your demo reel is located exclusively on entertainment sites.

A demo reel should represent the best you're capable of, and in that capacity, this is almost embarrassingly amatuerish. You're not a novice. You've been doing flash for years. Act like it.

Hey, the Lock Legion thing had some good animation in it, dammit.
And I do put these things on more sites than just NG, I also put it on my personal site, where people can view it if they're interested.

Xombie: Chapter 9 Xombie: Chapter 9

Rated 1.5 / 5 stars March 15, 2007

Look.

Just because you can predict what the negative fan response is going to be doesn't mean they aren't legitimate complaints. You don't fix flaws just by acknowledging them, you fix them by fucking fixing them. I don't have to tell you it was too short. YOU told ME it was too short. How do you remedy something that? Make it fucking longer, that's how.
And the eyepatch, the exploding bear? To get us to buy the book? Weak, man. Even the guys who did Broken Saints didn't stoop to that. They offered a complete overhaul of the original series on the DVDs. You cut out part of the series, and tell us we get the rest if we pay you for you.
You want us to buy your wares, then you need to give us something, and promise more, not give us half of something and promise the rest.

I'm not saying you owe anyone shit, but you can't expect us to not only suck your dick, but throw money at you, when instead of being nice and apologetic for when you come up short, you're an asshole about it, then and you turn around and tell us we have to give you money if we want to understand what's happening in the series. That's bullshit.

Lim & Richi: Boundaries Lim & Richi: Boundaries

Rated 1.5 / 5 stars May 18, 2006

Not very amusing.

Honestly, if you throw enough punchlines one way, something's bound to stick. A few things did, but they just didn't manage to sell the entire package. I wouldn't take offense if I were you. You can't win over everybody; I happen to fall outside of your demographic. I'm not the kind of person who laughs when they're given the signal to.

The animation was adequate, but could still use some work. It looks like you're self-taught, and you've fallen into the psuedo-anime style utilized by people like Wonchop. I won't bore you with any ways to move away from that, because people with your style seem bound and determined to chain themselves to your style. It just really bothers me that the central hub of flash animation on the internet would rather bask in the cheap pops of this when there are things with much more merit out there.

Naruto Mix Naruto Mix

Rated 0.5 / 5 stars May 18, 2006

These weren't skits.

You took selections from different mp3s and put some lazy lipsyncing over traced drawings of naruto characters.

Like... what?
Okay, there was almost a joke in the scene with Gaara. Almost. He sucks at DDR and it moved too fast. Plus he controls sand and the song is called "sandstorm."
That's ALL.

Teagirl Teagirl

Rated 1 / 5 stars March 16, 2006

Terrible.

I don't even know how to approach this. Just what the fuck do you think you were trying to accomplish with this self-indulgent wank fest?

An unneccesary and revoltingly insipid self-insertion into yet another anime humor filled excuse for a flash movie. What was your end goal here? To make people talk about Tea Girl on the internet? I wouldn't even have reviewed if it wasn't for that goddamned Chuck Norris joke. Leave it to the oportunistic sheep herders of the internet to pick up a fad after it's already been completely beaten to death and try to pass it off as a joke.
This movie accomplishes absolutely nothing. Anyone who likes it would just as easily be amused by giggling and shitting themselves.

Just because you reached into your empty head and pulled out a punchline doesn't mean it's funny. This is a flash in deperate need of a reason to exist, and you try to pawn it off as an assignment for school.
I'm sure your professor was in fucking stitches.

Wonchop responds:

Erm, actually the goal WAS to pass my Linear Story assignment.
And since when have professor's taught multimedia!?

The HATTA's Rant The HATTA's Rant

Rated 2 / 5 stars January 14, 2006

Well intentioned, but plagued with troubles.

This movie has quite a few troubles, and Catspider is here to help.

I don't know if you drew that background or not, but it looks plainly tracebitmapped to me. This gives the flash a shoddy appearence that would not be so apparent had you taken some time to draw a proper one. There are various point perspective tutorials on Newgrounds that can assist you in this. I highly recommend the one by the user "Zen."

The character is also a little off. He doesn't seem to have much dimensionality; both sculpturally and as a character. You should probably practice some life drawings and get a better understanding of multiple dimensions. I don't even think it's possible for that character's head to have a back. Very aesthetically displeasing. The whole glory of animation is in understanding the weight of it and creating life-like movement, which you can't do with an irreparably 2-dimensional character. Furthermore, he doesn't excercise much character depth. You give him a voice, but you don't give him a soul; he comes across as nothing more than a hasty stock character used to drive the narative. That's terrible.

There also was not much happening in this flash. Aside from the hand movements, there's very little going on. Maybe if you want to continue with the monological route, you should consider a change in format. Perhaps take a cue from the flash "Men's Bathroom Monologue," and actually show the viewer the things the character is talking about. Maybe you could use a bit of masking to depict the events in a "24" style box narrative.

The potential offensiveness of your portrayal of the character as an african-american stereo-type is also not properly elaborated on in the warning. It seems to talk about offensive sexual content, which is not evident in this movie. This is retrospectively very off-beat. If you're reusing a warning from an older flash, maybe you should consider updating it on a case by case basis so that it doesn't scare away potential viewers and fail to warn away potentially offended viewers.

You seem to have a decent grasp of flash, so I hope to see you make some improvements in the future.
